{Blog love} Tartelette

Recently I have been drooling (quite literally) over some beautiful food blogs. The most recent one, Tartelette. Written by French ex-pastry chef Helen, now living in USA. She is now a food photographer, stylist and writer and you can see why. Tartelette contains beautiful images as well as the perfected recipes. For a little extra, you can also top up on your French, with ‘French word of the week’ like below:

“This week French Word feature is all about l’ete (summer), les cerises (cherries) and les vacances (vacation)”

The Handmade Pledge

Have you taken the pledge yet? I just did and feel like spreading the word from the tops of the trees! This is a collaboration of nine prominent forces in the creative world including the likes of etsy, design sponge and The American Craft Council. Although American, I think its very apt to our shores in here in Australia. Their aim is to get people shopping and purchasing handmade products rather than shopping in the large chain stores. So spread the word and get people to take the pledge at Buy Handmade today!

When I became engaged January last year, I stumbled across one of most beautiful blogs, snippet & ink. Kathryn who writes the blog compiles the most amazing mood boards, ranging from all ‘themes’ and colour ranges – it is truely a delight to check in and discover a new mood board. Even if you’re not engaged or thinking about marriage, I think you’ll find them inspiring for all things – decorating a new room, dinner party decorations, invitations etc. Kathryn also offers beautiful ideas for the DIY and budget-conscious bride, so if you know of someone who has been recently engaged or even if they are close to their wedding date, you must pass it on. I certainly know I picked up many great ideas!

I’m moving from the city to our little farm house in 3 weeks time. So I’ve been looking around for decorating ideas and ‘affordable’ items to personalise our home with. Emphasis on affordable, as I’ll be leaving my full-time job and working on the elki range and freelancing! These are just a few items on my ‘must-purchase’ list, and the best bit – Brown Button Trading is Australian and online! Also check out Kimberlee’s blog, Brown Button blog.

Aren’t these silver partridge birds the cutest! I could see them perched in the lounge somewhere. And I’m thinking the clock for the kitchen, with the hen blackboard sticker for the fridge. For all those last minute items we need from town.

Its been such an enriching experience meeting new and creative people, from around the world, whom share similar creative inspirations. So in honor of the award, I have passed it onto 15 other wonderful bloggers who inspire me, and hopefully can introduce you to some new and wonderful blogs. And in no particular oder, here we go…

One of my regular morning stopovers for inspiration is the lovely Amanda’s blog Swish and Swanky. Not only does it contain all the things I love – interiors, vintage finds, art, stationery, but most importantly….its Australian!

This morning via Swish and Swanky, I was introduced to a great Australian design house, dandi. They specialise in the design of modern fabric and tableware based on all things Australian, including lovely Lorikeets and gum leafs (no cheesy touristy souvenirs in sight!). Swish and Swanky are giving away a gorgeous dandi dining set (in my favourite duck-egg pattern). So pop over to Swish and Swanky and enter the giveaway – I have!

I am a sucker for Scandinavian design (I swear I was a Scandinavian in my past life – might explain the blonde hair in a family of brunettes!). Anyway, have just discovered this new blog, emmas designblog (how could I not love it, with a name like that!). The blog is inpsiring and not necessarily all Scandinavian. Emma focueses on styling existing rooms rather than new products, to create a more sustainable lifestyle. The apartments and stylists featured reflect the simplicity and clean lines, Scandinavian design does so well.

Particularly in these times, when money is a little tight, I know I would rather buy a great old chair and recover it than buy it for 5 times the cost in a shop! What about you – are you brave enough to do a little DIY around the house, or rather let someone else do it?

Two loves this morning. I was recommended to the blog 1 Decor8 through my friend Amanda who has also started her own blog, blog 2 weekend host. So I thought I would mention both, but again you must really check them out to really appreciate each one.

Blog 1: weekend host, Amanda’s blog, showcases some great entertaining ideas, as well as beautiful images of design, styling and fashion. Its a great read and source of inspiration (see above images).

Blog 2: Decor8, is by the very talented and ever inspiring Holly Becker. Launched in 2006, it has over 25,000 visitors A DAY and there’s no argument to see why!

“everything from sofas to stationery along with product reviews, reader discounts, contests, interviews, store and home tours, do-it-yourself projects, and trade show coverage. Topics on small business ownership, blogging, and independent design are also discussed and meant to encourage and engage readers.”

Its definitely the first stop on my morning blog rounds, and I think it should be yours as well!

One of my favourite home design magazines Inside Out has recently launched their blog. Now I won’t have to wait longingly for each issue and savor every page, instead get my fix everyday on their blog!

Plus, if anyone bought this month’s issue they would have received the fabulous free gift (and who doesn’t love something for nothing, especially when its beautifully designed!). A eco-gorgeous hemp bag organiser designed by Grace Lee, one of the Inside Out designers.
So thank you Inside Out and Grace, my ipod/gloss/phone/sunnies/keys/etc now can be found in an instance rather than a hour of shaking and muttering to myself!
